Iran Accuses US of Becoming Axis of Hegemony
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi on Monday said that the United States, which follows the policy of escalating tension and crisis in the world, has become an "axis of hegemony".
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi on Monday said that the United States, which follows the policy of escalating tension and crisis in the world, has become an "axis of hegemony".
Asefi made the remarks following the "interventionist" claims byUS Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld about Iran, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Asefi said American officials had better respect the rights of nations to decide their fate, instead of making "unfounded and baseless" comments against them.
In an interview with Fox News late last week, Rumsfeld said thatit is not impossible for Iranian people to topple the government.
Rejecting Rumsfeld's statements, Asefi stressed that Iranian nation has chosen the path to democracy following the triumph of the 1979 Islamic revolution and campaign against domination by foreigners, including the United States.
He said the Iran considered the "insulting and interventionist" statements of the American officials as "arrogant fantasies."
Asking Washington not to repeat such "baseless" claims, Asefi urged the US government to take lessons from history of its relations with Iran.
