General Musharraf made the comment upon his arrival in Dhaka ona 3-day state visit this afternoon -- the first leg of his tour that will also take him to another South Asian country Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan President said he intends to brief acting President Jamiruddin Sircar and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on his government's initiative to defuse tensions caused by what he said massive Indian military buildups at the Indo-Pakistan frontier.
He said the primary aim of his visit is to discuss with Prime Minister Khaleda Zia ways and means of augmenting the relations between the two countries on bilateral plane.
Musharraf said he would also hold consultations on global and regional issues against the backdrop of recent developments of importance.
He noted that Pakistan and Bangladesh enjoy a close identity and views on matters of regional and international concerns. And such bilateral consultations facilitate greater understanding and coordination between friendly neighbors like Pakistan and Bangladesh, he added.
The visiting president said a number of agreements are likely to be signed during his visit. "This should help further reinforcethe fraternal relations between the two countries."
