Russian Airliner Crashes Near Moscow, Killing 14

An IL-86 plane of Pulkovo Airlines crashed during takeoff at 15:25 at Moscow time on Sunday at Sheremetevo-1 airport near Moscow, sources in law enforcement reported.

An IL-86 plane of Pulkovo Airlines crashed during takeoff at 15:25 at Moscow time on Sunday at Sheremetevo-1 airport near Moscow, sources in law enforcement reported.

Itar-Tass news agency reported there were 16 crew members aboard the plane, including 4 crew members and 12 cabin attendants. Reports said 14 of them died and two survived.

"The plane was destroyed in the crash. The fire is currently being extinguished," an official at Sheremetyevo-2 airport said. Sheremetyevo-2 and Sheremetyevo-1 have a common runway.

Rescue operations are underway.
