The huge west-east gas pipeline project will not pose threat to the environment in China's west, said a top official with Shell, which jointly owns 45 percent of project's stakes with ExxonMobil and Gazprom.
"We have not found no environmental problems at present," said Shell China's vice president Tom Bourgeois.
In cooperation with the United Nations and BP, Shell is conducting an assessment on the project's possible impact on the environment.
Shell believes the project will turn out to be successful, Bourgeois said, adding that Shell's fixing the term of the projectat 45 years demonstrates the company's confidence.
The west-east gas pipeline, which measures 4,000 km in length and strides 10 provincial areas, will send gas from China's underdeveloped west to the eastern region.
