Vice-chairman Ma Man Kei of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has criticized Chen Shui-bian, leader of the Taiwan authority, for his intention to seek Taiwan independence through holding a concurrent post as president of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Ma was quoted by Tuesday's Macao Daily News as saying that Chen's securing the post of DPP president by resorting to political tricks cannot hide from his proposition to push forward the independence of Taiwan, though in the name of laying a basis for the next presidential election.
Since Chen did not mention at all the one-China principle in his inauguration address, "how comes his willingness and sincerityto promote party-level mutual visits across the Taiwan Straits?" Ma said.
Chen neglected the common wish of the Chinese people including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots and overseas Chinese for the national reunification, Ma noted.
The "One Country, Two Systems" principle has been successfully implemented since Hong Kong and Macao returned to the motherland and Taiwan investors are also looked after in China's mainland, hecited.
"The reunification of China has become an irreversible trend," Ma pointed out.
