Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and visiting Libyan leader Muammar Ghaddafi held talks here Sunday on the volatile Mideast situation and bilateral ties, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said.
"The two leaders discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian lands in light of continued Israeli escalations (of military actions), Egypt's efforts to prevent further deteriorationof the situation as well as African issues of mutual concern," Maher told reporters after the Mubarak-Ghaddafi meeting.
Maher noted that the two sides stressed that an Israeli control over the Palestinian lands in the West Bank and its arrest of the Palestinians would not bring about security or tranquility.
The foreign minister denied earlier reports that the Mubarak-Ghaddafi talks would tackle the Sudan issue. There is no official information on the agreement signed by the Sudanese government and the rebels, he added.
MENA earlier said the Mubarak-Ghaddafi talks were held within the framework of continued consultations between Egypt and Libya onthe current Arab conditions and African and international issues ofmutual interest.
Ghaddafi arrived here earlier in the day. During his three-day visit, he will attend Egypt's celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the July 1952 revolution.
