A heavy fighting broke out Monday in Middle Shabelle region between the militiamen of warlordMohamed Omar Habeb, known as Mohamed Dhere, and those opposing to his administration in the region, local radio reported Tuesday.

The fighting actually took place in War Issa village, about 27 km east of Jowhar town, the regional capital of Middle Shabelle region in southwestern Somalia, said the report.

According to eyewitnesses, at least six battle wagons and over a hundred heavily armed militiamen belonging to Mohamed Dhere haveattacked the village where his administration had been undermined by politicians from the Yusuf Galmah sub-clan, challenging his power in the region especially Jowhar town.

Spokesman for the Yusuf Galmah sub-clan Muhumad Mohamed Addow Qarofey has accused the forces of Mohamed Dhere of totally destroying the War Issa village and setting it up on fire.

Qarofey admitted that one of his fighters and a civilian were killed and two more of his men were wounded during the fighting for control of the village.

He added that his men have destroyed three battle wagons and killed more than 15 gunmen from the side of Mohamed Dhere.

There's no official word from the side of Mohamed Dhere over the fighting, however, tension and the consequences of the fighting were felt in Jowhar town itself, where five wounded gunmen including the man in charge of the interior affairs for Mohamed Dhere were brought to hospital for treatment.

But independent sources said that the man has died in hospital and was buried Tuesday morning.

Monday's fighting is a part of a series of political wrangling between Mohamed Dhere and other politicians over the administration of the very fertile region.

Interior Minister of the Transitional National Government DahirDayah, whose house in Mogadishu has been attacked, still does not seem to have let up his effort in trying to dislodge Mohamed Dherefrom the region and Monday's fighting is believed to be a part of that process.
