Russian Foreign Minister to Visit Seoul, Pyongyang

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov will pay official visits to South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the end of this month for talks on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov will pay official visits to South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the end of this month for talks on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The foreign ministry said Tuesday in a statement that Ivanov would visit South Korea on July 26 to 28 and hold talks with the country's Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Choe Song-hong.

After that, he will travel to the DPRK for a two-day visit to discuss with his DPRK counterpart Paek Nam-sun bilateral relations,the situation on the Korean peninsular, as well as urgent international issues, said the statement.

Russia has recently intensified diplomatic efforts on the Korean Peninsula. Alexander Losyukov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister responsible for Asian affairs, said earlier that Moscow would keep close contacts with both Seoul and Pyongyang in a bid to promote the negotiation process of the Korean Peninsula.
