Iraq's National Assembly (parliament) held a special session on Monday to voice its full support for President Saddam Hussein and blast the US threats against the country, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Iraq's National Assembly (parliament) held a special session on Monday to voice its full support for President Saddam Hussein and blast the US threats against the country, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
National Assembly Speaker Saadoun Hamadi, who presided over the meeting, said the parliament was fully behind the leadership of Saddam and "supports all the steps Saddam has taken or will take todefend Iraq."
Hamadi also blasted the US "aggressive" policy and "hostile" campaign against Iraq.
It was "illegal" for the United States to try to overthrow the Iraqi regime, Hamadi said, stressing that the U.S. threats to topple Saddam violated the United Nations Charter and the International Law.
"Any attempts by the evil U.S. administration against Iraq and its people will end in failure like the previous ones," Hamadi said. Iraqi National Assembly called on the Arab and European parliaments, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to expose the hostile US plans against Iraq.
US President George W. Bush, who branded Iraq as part of an "axis of evil", has vowed to topple Saddam by using all the possibletools he has.
According to recent US media reports, Bush has ordered the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to undertake a comprehensive and covert program to overthrow Saddam this year.
The reports said the CIA had been authorized to use all possiblemeans, including the possible use of US special forces, to kill Saddam if they were acting in self-defense.
