The US company Sasaki won two top prizes in the construction design competition for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Sunday in Beijing.
Construction of Olympic venues is one of the top priorities for Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG), which has invited tenders from all over the world for the overall planning of Olympic Green and Wukesong Culture & Sports Complex, two main venues for the 2008 Olympics.
The joint effort of Sasaki and Chinese design company Tianjin Huahui was rewarded with the first prize for planning of Olympic Green. And Sasaki alone won the second prize for planning of the Wukesong complex, with the first prize unoccupied.
BOCOG received 57 submissions, 54 of which were valid, for the planning of Olympic Green. And 34 pieces of works, one of which was disqualified, went to the Wukesong complex.
A judging panel of six foreign and seven Chinese experts voted several rounds to decide the winners.
