Powell to Visit Eight Asian Nations
US Secretary of State Colin Powell will tour eight Asian nations late this month and early next month to further reduce tensions in South Asia and seek cooperation from Asian countries in fighting terrorism, the State Department said Friday.

"We have important relationships out here (there) that are vital to our economic, political, diplomatic future, as well as our security interests," Boucher said.
"He's wanted to make this trip to Southeast Asia for a long time, but also there are immediate and pressing issues with regardto the fight against terrorism throughout this region," the spokesman added.
On Powell's trip to South Asia, the third of its kind, Boucher said that "the secretary's been working and very interested in thesituation in India and Pakistan."
"That remains a prime issue for us, and he wants to go out and meet with the leaders there again," Boucher said.
According to the itinerary disclosed by Boucher, Powell will leave Washington on July 26 for his trip to India and Pakistan on July 27-28, and then travel to Bangkok on July 28, Kuala Lumpur onJuly 29, Singapore on July 30, before heading to Brunei to attend the annual meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Regional Forum scheduled for July 31 and August 1.
The US secretary of state will end his Asian trip by visiting Jakarta on August 2 and Manila on August 3.
