China will continue to offer support and assistance to its neighbors and other developing countries, Chinese top lawmaker Li Peng said Thursday.
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks during a meeting with Nepalese King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev.
Li said that China believed all countries were equal regardlessof size and wealth, and no interference in the internal affairs ofa sovereign country should be allowed.
Li said China's NPC, or parliament, greatly valued developing ties with the parliament of Nepal and other countries.
Li said he appreciated the support of the Nepalese king and the Nepalese Government for China on the issue of Tibet. China fully supported and understood the efforts of the Nepalese king and Government to safeguard Nepal's sovereignty, unity and stability.
King Gyanendra described his visit to China as a success, whichwould strengthen the friendship between Nepal and China.
China was a reliable and trustworthy friend of Nepal, and had offered assistance to Nepal in time of need, he said.
The Nepalese king said Nepal would uphold the one-China policy,and not allow any activities in Nepal that would harm China's interests.
