China to Train More Post-doctorates

China is expected to increase the number of post-doctoral students from the present 7,000 to between 12,000 and 15,000 by 2005, a senior government official said in Beijing Tuesday.

China is expected to increase the number of post-doctoral students from the present 7,000 to between 12,000 and 15,000 by 2005, a senior government official said in Beijing Tuesday.

Zhang Xuezhong, minister of personnel, said at a meeting to honor and encourage gifted individuals that the country would increase investment in post-doctoral education, but noted that keyprojects would receive funding priority.

The system will be improved to make it easier to commercialize post-doctoral research achievements, Zhang said.
