Arafat Condemns Israeli Policy on Palestine
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat has said the Israeli policy on Palestine "aims at undermining the Palestinian National Authority and destroying all means of its survival".

"Israel is still rejecting all efforts seeking peace between the two countries, and its army is still bent on killing, assassinating and detaining Palestinians as well as on destroying or undermining our institutions," said a speech read out by FaroukAl Kadoumy, director of the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) political department, Monday, who is here to represent Arafatto attend the opening ceremony of the 38th summit of the Organization of African Unity.
Arafat, who did not attend the summit due to the worsening situation in Palestine, noted in his speech that Palestine has always affirmed that violence, occupation and the dangerous military escalation are not the road to the solution.
Indeed, it is the political negotiation that should be the onlymeans to solve the conflict, he said, adding that Israel has rejected all efforts to ease the tension between the two sides.
The Palestinian people are suffering from misery and are exposed to a barbaric, bloody racist and savage war waged by the Israeli authority, according to the speech.
Arafat accused the Israeli authority of using destructive and devastating arms and weapons, even those internationally prohibited to destroy the Palestinian territory.
He hoped the African leaders continue offering support, solidarity to the Palestinian issue, activate the international efforts to stop the ongoing barbaric and savage aggression againstthe Palestinian people.
Heads of state from African countries have assembled in the South African port city of Durban for a three-day meeting that will usher in what is believed to be a more powerful African Union(AU) to replace the 39-year-old Organization of African Unity.
The convening of the summit is reported to find solutions to the problem that the African continent facing in terms of poverty,hunger, backwardness and environmental crisis, as well as aggravating health, economic, educational and social problems.
