Afghan Vice-President Abdul Qadir Shot Dead in Kabul

Afghan Vice President Abdul Qadir was shot dead Saturday by unidentified gunmen outside his office in central Kabul, the Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed.

Afghan Vice President Abdul Qadir was shot dead Saturday by unidentified gunmen outside his office in central Kabul, the Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed.

Two of his bodyguards were also killed, and the gunmen escaped,said Interior Minister Taj Mohammed Wardak.

The shooting took place at around 01:00 p.m. (0830 GMT) and Qadir was gunned down near the Ministry of Public Works, a portfolio he was given last month by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The Afghan government blamed "terrorists" for the apparent assassination attempt on the vice president's life.
