Iraq and Iran will exchange 1,776 remains of soldiers killed in the war between the two neighbors in 1980-1988, the official weekly Al-Tihat reported on Saturday in Baghdad.
The exchange ceremony will take place on July 21 at the Iraq-Iran border, in which Iraq will hand over 574 remains of soldiers to the Iranian side while Iran will transfer 1,202 remains of soldiers to the Iraqi side.
On June 18, the two sides also swapped 123 remains of soldiers killed in the eight-year war.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri Ahmed visited Iran in January to try to settle the outstanding "humanitarian" issues including prisoners of war (POWs) and normalization of bilateral relations.
Some 1 million Iraqis and Iranians were killed in the bloody 1980-1988 war. More than 13 years after their ceasefire, the two neighbors have neither normalized their relations nor signed a peace treaty.
