A British light aircraft crashed on Wednesday soon after takeoff near Lisbon, killing all four people aboard, Lusa news agency reported.

The plane was on its way to Porto, Portugal's second largest city. Its pilot contacted air traffic controllers 20 minutes after takeoff at 11:53 a.m.(0953 GMT), to tell them he was returning to Cascais because of bad weather on the way.

Then controllers received no more messages from the pilot.

Firefighters found the wreckage of the plane on a mountain road north of Lisbon. All victims were British citizens, the news agency said.
