OAU Council of Ministers Ends Special Session on AU
African Foreign Ministers and senior officials of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) ended their three-day special session in Durban, South Africa Wednesday with the adoption of a report on the main organs of the African Union (AU).

Rules and regulations of the AU Assembly, the Executive Council,the Commission and the Committee of the Permanent Representatives have been finalized during the session, noted the report..
On the portfolios of the commission, the report said that the session agreed all commissioners would be responsible for promoting gender equality in areas falling within their mandates.
The primary and ultimate responsibility for promoting gender equality in the activities of the AU would reset with the chairperson of the commission, according to the report.
The report will be delivered to the summit of AU for approval, which is scheduled to be held on July 9 in Durban, a port city in eastern South Africa.
Besides, the report said that the delegation agreed to establish the peace and security council as expeditiously as possible, adding that peace and security constituted, with development and integration, the main pillars of the AU, and all member states should be involved in this endeavor.
The report also noted that this organ would be much sufficiently empowered to enable the AU to fulfill its mandate in the area of peace and security.
