The United States said Tuesday it has decided to withdraw an offer provided to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) last week for resumption of high-level dialogues between the two sides.

A senior U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the decision was made because of a lack of response from Pyongyang and a sea clash between the DPRK and South Korea on Saturday.

The U.S. provided the offer for resumption of high-level dialogues at a meeting in New York last Thursday between U.S. diplomats and DPRK representatives to the United Nations.

According to the U.S. proposal, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Kelly was expected to visit Pyongyang next week.
