Though its tender to design the World Exposition site was unsuccessful, Albert Speer & Partner (AS&P), a famous German town planning company, still maintains Shanghai should win the right to host the event.
Shen Jian, the chief representative of the AS&P Shanghai Office, considers a Shanghai World Expo 2010 would bring extensive development opportunities to the whole world and the site design is only a small part of this.
Statistics show that if Shanghai wins the right to host the World Expo 2010, it will cost 3 billion US dollars to build the exhibition zone.
Other investments in areas such as traffic, commerce and the reconstruction of old districts will cost five to 10 times more than the cost of holding the expo.
Professional services in finance, tourism, management and law are needed for the World Expo which will also bring both domestic and overseas companies great business opportunities.
The city's mayor Chen Liangyu said that Shanghai World Expo 2010 will greatly stimulate the development of international exhibitions as well as benefit all investors.
Since opening their office in China a year ago, AS&P has taken part in the planning and designing of a high-tech park in the New Pudong District and an international automobile mall in the Jiading District, adding a unique German style to the metropolis.
Currently, the AS&P is actively bidding for the planning of theecological protection zone in Shanghai's Chongming Island as well as a construction project in Beijing.
The company has also received many design requests from cities close to Shanghai.
According to Shen Jian, the east China areas, economically-headed by Shanghai, have strong economic power and advanced industries after 20 years of continuous development.
"Now many places here have started regional reconstruction and planning, which will be starting many large projects which need the involvement of foreign companies," Shen said.
