China is concerned about the exchange of fire between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) in the Yellow Sea Saturday morning, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remark in response to a request for comments.

Liu said, "We've taken note of relevant reports," expressing concern over the exchange of fire between the two sides in the Yellow Sea.

The overall situation on the Korean Peninsula tends to ease and the north and south sides are taking measures to improve their relations, Liu said.

China hopes that relevant parties would make efforts to safeguard stability on the peninsula, Liu said.
