Italian referee PierluigiCollina said Friday he will console the losing players in Sunday'sWorld Cup final in Yokohama between Brazil and Germany.
"It's not easy for me to celebrate with the winners. I like to stay close to the losers," said Collina, considered by many to be the best referee in world soccer.
"When I see someone crying, it's nice to say some words becauseI have shared all the match with them," he said.
Collina said that after refereeing Japan's second-round match with Turkey, which the co-hosts lost 1-0, he told the Japanese players that they "should be proud of their efforts."
