Putin Leaves for Canada to Attend G8 Summit
Russian President Vladimir Putin left Moscow Tuesday for a summit of the Group of Eight (G8), which is to be held in Kananaskis, Canada, from June 26 to 27.

Leaders from the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada,Japan, and Russia will meet on Wednesday to discuss the fight against terrorism, the growth of world economy and a new plan for the development of African countries, Russian presidential advisorAndrei Illarionov said.
The informal meeting will also be attended by the European Commission President Romano Prodi, Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria, whose country is holding the rotating presidency of the EU,the U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, as well as leaders of a number of African countries.
Besides working sessions within the framework of the summit, Putin is expected to hold a series of bilateral talks with leadersof other G8 countries. Among those are meetings with the U.S. President George W. Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Junyichiro Koizumi, Illarionov said.
