China Raises 100 Million Yuan for Disaster Relief
The China Poverty-Relief Foundation (CPRF) has collected donations worth 100 million yuan (12.05 million U.S. dollars) for disaster relief in 10 flood-hit areas in China.

These include nine provinces and autonomous regions such as Shaanxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Xinjiang, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Fujian as well as Chongqing municipality. The number of people affected by the floods reached 65.6 million, including 423 dead. Direct economic losses totaled 16.38 billion yuan (1.97 billion U.S. dollars), according to statistics from the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Heavy rains since early this summer have swollen rivers and triggered mudslides and flooding in southwestern regions, forced tens of thousands to leave from their homes, damaged crops and caused severe damage. Heavy rains also hit eastern and central parts of the country.
To help the flood victims, the CPRF contacted international relief organizations and sent working groups to the worst-hit areas to collect information for the donors and work out dispatch plans.
The 10 million-yuan (1.205 million-U.S. dollar) worth of goods were mostly donated by the Mercy Corps, Crossroads International, Islamic Release, Kunming Department Store Corp Ltd, and Bank of China (BOC) Credit Card (Int'l) Ltd.
