Chinese Legislature Reviews 15 Draft Laws
A total of 15 draft laws, resolutions and treaties were submitted to the new legislative session of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committeethat kicked off Monday.

These legislative drafts cover a wide range of issues including government procurement, work safety, the promotion of non-governmental educational institutions, and the opening up of the country's insurance market.
The documents on the "Worst Forms of Child Labor Convention 1999" were also presented by the State Council for ratification.
The draft Law on the Promotion of Non-governmental Educational Institutions and amendments to the Agriculture Law, the Law on Surveying and Mapping and the Amendments to the Insurance Law weretabled with lawmakers for the first hearing.
Seven draft laws on government procurement, the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises, work safety, science and technology popularization, clean production, and rural land contracts have been previously debated. Revised versions of these drafts laws were submitted Monday for further discussion.
According to a draft decision announced Monday, members of the first and incumbent Committee of the Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will carry on until the next NPC appoints its new members next year.
