Mubarak, Ghaddafi Hold Phone Talks over Mideast Situation

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday held a phone conversation with Libyan leader Muammar Ghaddafi on the worsening Mideast situation, the official MENA newsagency reported.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday held a phone conversation with Libyan leader Muammar Ghaddafi on the worsening Mideast situation, the official MENA newsagency reported.

"The two sides discussed the current situation in the Palestinian lands and the ongoing contacts at Arab, regional and international levels in this respect," the MENA said.

The Palestinian-Israeli violence has been spiralling in the pastfew days with death toll on both sides soaring.

The Palestinian side blamed Israel for the worsening situation in the occupied Palestinian lands.

The Israeli army has rolled into some West Bank cities and raided some targets of the Gaza Strip in recent days in retaliationfor Palestinian suicide bombing attacks.

About 1,800 people, most of them Palestinians, have been killed since the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli violence in late September, 2000.
