More than nine kilograms of heroin and about 12,000 narcotic pills were burned in public Friday in Tongxin County, northwest China's Ningxia Hui AutonomousRegion.
Regional drugs control officers said that this year they had cracked down on 1,400 drugs cases and caught 1,780 smugglers and addicts.
The public destruction of drugs is aimed to strike a blow against drug smuggling on the eve of Saturday's International Anti-drugs Day and raise local people's awareness of the campaign against drugs-related crime, police said.
