A number of Macao elite donated 5 million HK dollars Friday to help the flood-besieged inlanders rebuild their homes and resume production.

Bai Zhijian, director of the Liaison Office of the central people's government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, received on behalf of the victims 1.5 million dollars from Vice-Chairman Ma Man Kei of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and his family,3 million dollars from Stanley Ho, a standing committee member of the CPPCC National Committee and 500,000 dollars from a local entrepreneur.

Ma said the Macao people showed great concern about the inland flood situation, hoping the victims overcome the existing difficulties and lead normal lives at the earliest date.

The Macao Red Cross Association has called for local residents making donations.

Since June, serial floods have played havoc mainly in five areas -- Shaanxi Province, Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, Hubei Province and Guizhou Province.
