Over 100 Trapped as Gas Explosion Hits Coal Mine

A serious gas explosion happened at 9:45 AM Thursday in a coal mine in Jixi City of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, besieging over 100 miners. It is estimated that some 140 coal miners were working underground when the explosion took place in the Chengzihe Coal Mine.

24 Killed in Coal Mine Blast in Northeast China
More than 100 miners are trapped underground at a coal mine in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on June 20 when a gas explosion happened, local government departments said.

The trapped in the Chengzihe Coal Mine also includes general manager of Jixi Mining Group, Zhao Wenlin.

Zhao was inspecting work underground when the explosion happened in the morning in Chengzihe Coal Mine in Jixi City of Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

Jixi Mayor Wuwei and leaders of Jixi Mining Group are coordinating rescue efforts at site and Song Fatang, governor of Heilongjiang Province, is on his way to Jixi.

It is estimated that some 140 miners were working underground when the explosion took place. Specific number of the trapped, casualties and causes for the explosion are subject to further investigation.

So far, 25 miners have been rescued and eight of the seriously injured hospitalized.
