Two suspected Al-Qaeda members among five have been arrested as Pakistani police, para-military forces and FBI agents of the United States continued overnight raids on various hideouts of terrorists in the port city of Karachi, local news agency SANA reported on Wednesday.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined the Pakistani law enforcement agencies in a hunt for those responsiblefor last Friday's deadly bomb attack on the U.S. consulate in Karachi, in which 12 people lost their lives.
Pakistani police and FBI agents launched a search operation in different localities of Karachi and picked up five persons. Three out of the five are stated to be staunch members of Jihadi outfits.
Two of the persons arrested from a house in North Nazim Abad locality are suspected to be Al-Qaeda acolytes as police recoveredsatellite phone and other sensitive equipment from their possession. The FBI agents provided clues to police of the locations of these suspected Al-Qaeda members, according to the report.
When contacted, police however declined to refute or confirm the arrest of five persons in last night search operation, the report said.
The raids were carried out after a high level meeting which took a decision to crack down on anti-state elements in the wake of terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate.
