Karzai Announces Key Posts of New Cabinet

President-elect of the Afghan Transitional Government Hamid Karzai announced the key posts of his new cabinet and submitted the lineup to the Loya Jirga for approval.

President-elect of the Afghan Transitional Government Hamid Karzai announced the key posts of his new cabinet and submitted the lineup to the Loya Jirga for approval.

In his new government, Abdullah Abdullah and Mohammad Qasim Fahim will retain their portfolios as foreign minister and defenseminister. Other ministers named include Minister for Interior Taj Mohammad Khan Wardak, Minister for Finance Ashraf Ghan, Minister for Commerce Seyyed Mustafa Kazemi and Minister for Planning Haji Muhammad Mohaqqeq.

Karzai also named Mohammad Qasim Fahim, Khalillee, Haji Abdul Gadeer as his vice-presidents. He said that the three deputies should remain in Kabul and can not return to their provinces.
