Second Black Box From Airline Crash Recovered

The second "black box" which records the flight data of the China Airlines (CAL) Boeing 747-200that crashed in May was recovered from deep waters near Penghu Wednesday, reported Taiwan's local media.

The second "black box" which records the flight data of the China Airlines (CAL) Boeing 747-200that crashed in May was recovered from deep waters near Penghu Wednesday, reported Taiwan's local media.

Wednesday's retrieval came one day after search teams recoveredCAL Flight CI-611's cockpit voice recorder, effectively pushing ahead investigations into the crash, said Kay Yong, managing director of the Aviation Safety Council of Taiwan.

The black boxes are in good condition but it is unclear whetherdata contained on their magnetic tapes is intact, Yong said, adding that it will take about one week to decipher the tapes, andthen determination of what may have happened on the flight can bespeculated upon.

The Hong Kong-bound jet broke up at high altitude and plunged into waters near the island of Penghu, off western Taiwan on May 25, killing all 225 people on board.
