Saudi Arabia said on Tuesday that eight Saudi and foreign nationals linked to Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network were arrested on alleged suspicion of planning to carry out terror attacks in the kingdom.

A source at the Saudi Interior Ministry was quoted by Kuwait's official KUNA news agency as saying that the suspects, whose names were not revealed, were arrested a few months ago.

The suspects included six Saudi nationals and a Sudanese who planned to use explosives and surface-to-air missiles to carry out terrorist and sabotage acts aimed at some vital sites in the kingdom, the source said. The Sudanese is considered one of the masterminds of the terrorist act.

One of the suspects made a failed attempt to launch a "Sam 7" rocket near the Saudi Prince Sultan military base, which is used bythe U.S. forces, and buried a similar rocket in the desert outside the capital of Riyadh, he added.

The source said that the results of the investigation into the case will be released after the procedure is finished.

He stressed that the Saudi security agencies are working efficiently and are able to foil any plans for disrupting security of Saudi citizens and residents.

The oil-rich Saudi Arabia, a key regional ally of the United States, has repeatedly voiced its support for a United States-led anti-terror war.
