Israel's First Astronaut to be Sent Into Space

Israel's first-ever astronaut Ilan Ramon is scheduled to be sent into space next month, an official press release said on Monday.

Israel's first-ever astronaut Ilan Ramon is scheduled to be sent into space next month, an official press release said on Monday.

According to the press release, issued by Israel's Ministry of Science Culture and Sport, Ramon will take on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) shuttle Columbia Flight STS 107 into space on July 19 from the the US Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The 48-year-old colonel in the Israeli Air Force will take part in a 16-day mission to conduct scientific research in the space.
