French Right Parties Win Majority of Votes in Legislative Election

French right parties have won 52.76 percent of votes nationwide in Sunday's decisive second round of legislative election, ahead of the left (45.33 percent) and the far-right (1.89 percent), the French Interior Ministry announced.

French right parties have won 52.76 percent of votes nationwide in Sunday's decisive second round of legislative election, ahead of the left (45.33 percent) and the far-right (1.89 percent), the French Interior Ministry announced.

The ministry, which made the announcement early Monday after counting all votes cast in mainland France, said that the turnout rate stood at 60.8 percent, a record low in France's elections.

The result, which is incomplete, concerns 555 of France's 577 constituencies. The remaining 22 are in overseas departments and territories.
