Croatian President Stjepan Mesic met a visiting delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday in Zagreb, and the two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and issues of common concern.
Mesic said his visit to China recently impressed him deeply. The achievements China has made in economic construction, and Shanghai's development and great changes in particular, prove the correctness of China's path of development.
He confirmed Croatia's firm stand on the one-China policy and its support for China's reunification.
Mesic also expressed strong interests in conducting cooperation with China in trade, tourism, culture, education, sports and other fields.
Huang Ju, head of the delegation and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, said although Croatia and China are far away in distance, peoples of the two nations have a profound traditional friendship.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 10 years ago, relations between the two countries have developed smoothly, and cooperation in many fields has extended increasingly, Huang said.
China is willing to promote bilateral ties in the new century on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, he said.
Huang said China lauds the efforts made by Croatia in developing its national economy, enhancing people's living standards, maintaining good-neighbourly relations and safeguarding regional stability.
At the invitation of Croatia's People's Party, the Chinese delegation arrived in the Croatian capital on a goodwill visit on Wednesday.
