The Communist Party of China (CPC) extended on Thursday congratulations to the 8th national congress of Mozambique's ruling Mozambique Liberation Front Party which opened in Maputo earlier in the day.

In a message to the conference, the CPC Central Committee said it believed the conference would pave the way for further economic development in the southeast African country.

The CPC praised the unremitting efforts by Mozambique's ruling party to safeguard national independence and promote economic development. In particular, the CPC cited the party for its work in recent years to pursue a development course suiting national conditions, and to maintain both domestic and regional peace and stability.

On the principles of self-dependence, equality, mutual respect and noninterference with each other's internal affairs, the CPC hoped to strengthen the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two parties, which will, in turn, help promote relations between the two countries based on mutual trust and mutual benefit.

The CPC message was presented at the gathering by Liu Zemin, an alternate member of the CPC Central Committee and Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party committee of China's Shanxi Province.

Liu is heading a party delegation invited here to attend the June 13-17 meeting of the Mozambique Liberation Front Party.

After his stay in Mozambique, Liu will travel to Verde Cape at the invitation of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde.
