The 11th Panchen Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhist believers, toured Lhasa, capital of Tibet, Thursday.
On his tour he visited a corporation ltd to produce local Tibetan medicine, a museum, a conference hall and the square in front of the Potala Palace.
Upon his arrival in Lhasa, the 13-year-old 11th Panchen Lama was warmly greeted by local lamas, Buddhist believers and government officials. On Wednesday and Thursday, he paid homage tothe Jokhang Temple and the Ramogia Monastery, where two statues ofthe Buddha Sakyamuni are located.
The 11th Panchen ascended the throne in 1995 at Zhaxi Lhunbo Lamasery after he was affirmed as the reincarnated Panchen Lama inline with religious custom. The last Panchen Lama died in 1989.
