Four-time world champions Brazil trounced Costa Rica 5-2 to send Turkey into the round of 16 at the World Cup finals Thursday in Suwon.
Ronaldo opened the scoring at the 10th minute and made it the second time three minutes later.
Edmilson added on at the 38th minute, only to see Paulo Wanchope respond with a goal one minute later to reduce the gap totwo goals.
The Costa Rican team, which needed only a draw to secure a berth in the second half, further narrowed the gap to just one goal through Rolando Fonseca at the 56th minute. But the Brazilians again pulled away with two goals from Rivaldo and Junior at the 62nd and 64th minutes respectively.
The win put Brazil the winners of the group with 9 points from three victories. Turkey, which beat China 3-0 in another Group C match on Thursday, also advanced into the second stage with a better goal difference than Costa Rica.
