Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa Wednesday expressed his wish to visit China this fall so as to see "how China has managed to feed its huge population of more than 1.2 billion".
"We in Zambia have a population of only 11 million, but still there are some people who do not have enough food," said Mwanawasawhile meeting with a Chinese military delegation.
That is why the "New Deal government" is doing everything possible to push for the development of agriculture, he said.
Mwanawasa, also the Defense Minister, said that Zambia, as a sincere friend, will continue to uphold the "one-China" stance on the Taiwan issue.
He praised China for its economic and military aid to Zambia and pledged Zambia's efforts to continue pushing forward the amicable ties between the two countries.
General Du Tiehuan, leader of the delegation, said that he had had fruitful discussions with his counter-part in Zambia, and the two sides reached agreement on many issues including military exchanges and cooperation.
Du also thanked Zambia for standing on China's side on the Taiwan issue as well as on the human rights issue.
Du and his party left here for home right after the 30-minutes meeting. They had toured the Sudan and Djibouti before coming to Zambia on Saturday.
