Germany Beats Cameroon 2-0 to Top Group E at World Cup
Thanks to Marco Bode's foot-shot and Miroslav Klose's header in the second half, three-time world champions Germany upset Cameroon 2-0 in their last group E match at the 2002 World Cup finals here on Tuesday, topping the group and advancing to the knock-out phase.

Cameroon have been knocked out of the premier soccer tournamentwith four points for their three group matches, and Ireland routedSaudi Arabia 3-0 in their last match to come as the runner-up of this group with five points. Saudi Arabia were downed to the bottom of the group with three defeats and without a single goal.
After a nervous but lackluster first half, the experienced Germans rallied to launch a few penetrating offensives on their opponents. Substitute Marco Bode coming to the pitch in the secondhalf chipped into the box in the right time to strike a timely pass home in the 50th minute, lifting his side to a 1-0 lead.
German striker Miroslav Klose's precise header in the 78th minute extended his side's lead over Cameroon to 2-0.
The players of both sides appeared bad-tempered in the match which featured two red cards and 14 yellow cards.
In the 40th minute, Germany's defender Carsten Ramelow was sentoff after getting the second yellow card. But Cameroon also lost aplayer for two yellow cards in the second half.
Cameroon's best scoring chance came in the 73rd minute when Lauren's header on a free kick hit the right pole of the goal and ace striker Patrick Mboma shot the bounced-back ball directly intothe belly of German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn.
In the first half, Cameroon's midfielder Salomon Olembe missed a chance in the 13th minute when he sliced through the defense line, making a solo run into the penalty box. But his soft shot was blocked by Kahn.
In the 27th, Kahn knocked out a long-range right-wing free kickby Cameroon. However, the ball hit the body of a defender, bouncing back but flying out of the endline close to the right pole.
One minute later, Cameroon's Song got another scoring chance inthe box. But his header on a free kick from left wing flashed narrowly wide.
