Leader of Afghanistan's interim administration Hamid Karzai said Tuesday afternoon the Afghan people want long and lasting peace.
Speaking at the opening session of the Loya Jirga assemble, Karzai said, "After two decades of war, our people want long and lasting peace."
He also said that the Afghan people need honor, dignity, education and progress. Men and Women ask for education and want to go to university.
Just before the former king inaugurated the meeting, Chairman of the Loya Jirga Commission Mohammad Ismael Qasemyar said, "The meeting of the Loya Jirga is a measure of national unity, peace and reconciliation."
He said, "We are hoping this Loya Jirga, with unity and shared heart, can solve the problems that have faced our lands for 23 years."
