Ireland advanced into the second round of the 2002 World Cup finals after beating Saudi Arabia 3-0 in a Group E match on Tuesday.
The Irish team, which needed a two-goal win to secure a berth in the round of 16, took an early lead at the 7th minute through Robbie Keane.
But they played sluggishly thereafter and allowed Saudi Arabia doing more attacking in the first half.
The Irish players again picked up their usual rhythm in the second half and scored two more goals through Gary Breen and Damien Duff at the 62nd and 87th minutes respectively.
The victory made them the runners-up in the group after Germany, which beat Cameroon 2-0 in another Group E match.
