In the wake of killing of a girl student last Saturday, heavy contingents of police and Bangladesh Rifles launched a raid on 11 residential halls of Dhaka University and rounded up 146 people Tuesday.

In all, 21 rounds of bullets of shot gun and pistol and nine home made bombs were recovered from the halls.

The student was killed in a cross fire between two groups belonging to different political groupings.

On Monday, students called for an indefinite strike on the campus to press home their five-point demands including expulsionsof all criminals responsible for the killing and immediate resignation of the vice-chancellor.

Agitating students vandalized and set fire to the rooms of activists.

Teachers took out a procession Monday and submitted a memorandum to the prime minister demanding trial of the killers.

Fighting among student groups belonging to different political parties are usual practices in the country and the Dhaka University is the center.

The joint combing operation is carried out under the prime minister's directive to nab the killers and ensure a terrorism free campus and society.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Aftaf Hossain Chowdhury Monday told the parliament that terrorists would be brought to book and tried regardless of their political affiliations.
