Brazilian striker Ronaldo has made a pact with coach Luiz Felipe Scolari to score seven goals in the World Cup finals, according to a report from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by Japanese news agency Kyodo on Monday.
The striker has kept the average of one goal in Brazil's first two matches with Turkey and China and intends to keep this performance until the World Cup final.
"We have made a pact for him to score a goal in each match until the final game in Yokohama on June 30," Scolari was quoted by Brazilian sports daily Lance as saying.
The striker has told the daily he plans to be the tournament's top scorer and the goals "are happening naturally" and hopes to keep the average in the match with Costa Rica on Thursday, the report said.
Miroslav Klose of Germany is currently the top scorer at four goals after Monday's matches. Jon Dahl Tomasson of Denmark, Christian Vieri of Italy, and Pauleta of Portugal follow Klose with three goals each. Ronaldo is one of seven strikers who have scored two goals.
Ronaldo scored four goals in the 1998 World Cup in France and will become Brazil's second main scorer in the competition if he manages to live up to the promise. Soccer icon Pele is Brazil's No. 1 scorer in World Cups, with 12 goals.
He is slowly recovering his full physical and technical condition after two knee surgeries, which have kept him over a year away from the game. He hopes the World Cup will inaugurate a new, prosperous age in his career.
