The United States on Monday expressed relief at an apparent easing of tensions between nuclear rivals India and Pakistan, but cautioned the crisis in South Asia is not yet over.
"We welcome signs that tensions are beginning to lessen," StateDepartment spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters at a news briefing.
"These include positive statements by the leadership of both countries, and now India's announcement that Pakistani aircraft can resume flights over Indian territory," Boucher said.
"Armies on both sides remain mobilized, however, and both sidesneed to continue to seek to lower tension," he said. "We welcome reports that additional measures are being considered to lower thethreat of an escalation of armed conflict."
Tensions were easing amid an international effort to pull the two countries back from the brink of war, with reports that Pakistan has closed some Kashmiri militant training camps and India is considering letting diplomats return.
