China, Zambia to Enhance Military Ties
A visiting Chinese military delegation and the Zambian military leaders had a series of discussions Monday in Lusaka and agreed that the two sides will continue to enhance the friendly exchanges and cooperation.

The Chinese delegation, led by General Du Tiehuan, political commissar of the Beijing Military Area Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, held separate meetings with Zambian Deputy Defense Minister W. Muliokela, Permanent Secretary Joel Chitafu at the Defense Ministry, Army Commander L. S. A. Chisuzi, Air Force Commander S. Kayumba and Zambian National Service Commandant W. Funjika.
Du told the hosts that the Chinese military highly values its strong ties with the Zambian counterpart, and such ties have stoodthe test of time.
He described Zambia as "a true friend" and expressed the conviction that the fruitful exchanges and cooperation between thearmed forces of the two countries will continue to grow.
Du also explained China's defense policy and its efforts to promote economic growth and modernize the national defense.
Permanent Secretary Chitafu, speaking on behalf of the Zambian military leadership, described China as an "all-weather friend" and expressed the hope that Zambia and China will have more military exchanges and cooperation in the days to come.
Zambian Foreign Minister Katele Kalumba also met with the Chinese visitors on Monday, and reaffirmed that Zambia will continue to support the "one-China" policy on the Taiwan issue andcontinue to cooperate with China on the human rights issue.
The Chinese delegation arrived here Saturday on a four-day good-will visit to Zambia.
