Bush Meets with Israeli Prime Minister

US President George W. Bush met Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at the White House on Monday as Israeli tanks and troops made a new incursion into the West Bank city of Ramallah.

US President George W. Bush met Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at the White House on Monday as Israeli tanks and troops made a new incursion into the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting in the Oval Office, Bush reiterated that Israel has the right to defend itself againstterrorist attacks.

"There are people in the Middle East who want to use terror as a way to derail any peace process," Bush said. "We've got to work together to create the conditions that prevent a few from stoppingwhat most people in the region want, which is peace."

Bush said he and Sharon talked about how to achieve peace in the Middle East.

"I reiterated my strong view that we need to work toward two states living side by side in peace, and we talked about how to achieve security and peace and economic hope for all people in theregion," Bush said.
