Two Palestinian militants were killed and four Israeli settlers were injured Saturday night as the two militants tried to infiltrate into the Jewish settlement of Yitshar, south of Nablus in the West Bank, Israel Radio reported.

The two militants opened fire at mobile homes inside the Jewish settlement, wounding the four settlers, and then the guards of the settlement and the soldiers fired back and killed them, the radio said.

Two of the four injured settlers are suffering serious wounds, and were taken to an Israeli hospital, it added.

It is the third infiltration in the day into a Jewish settlement in the West Bank.

Early Saturday morning, two Palestinians entered the settlement of Karmei Tzur, north of the West Bank city of Hebron, and opened fired at some mobile homes, killing an Israeli settler and his pregnant wife, and injuring six others.

Another infiltration into the Jewish settlement of Dogit failed early Saturday when an Israeli naval gunship fired at two militants who were swimming to reach the settlement.

In recent months, there has been an increase in attacks on Jewish settlements by Palestinian gunmen. In a shooting attack May 28, three Israeli teen-agers were killed while playing basketball in the Itamar settlement near Nablus.
