Spain Romp into Second Round with 3-1 Win over Paraguay
Spain beat Paraguay 3-1 in Group B on Friday to have six points from two games to ensure a round of 16 berth and become the first team to reach the World Cup second round.
Spain on Friday came from one goal down to beat Paraguay 3-1 and became the first team to make it the second round as second half substitute Fernando Morientes scored twice.
Spain, which opened with a 3-1 win over Slovenia, top Group B with six points and have secured a round of 16 berth.
Morientes scored his first goal on a header off a corner kick in the 53rd minute that put Spain on level after an early own goal gave Paraguay the lead.
In the 69th, Paraguay keeper Jose Luis Chilavert failed to catch a Javi De Pedro cross and the Real Madrid striker tapped in the winner.
Fernando Hierro extended the lead to 3-1 on a penalty kick in the 83rd after Raul Gonzalez was brought down in the area.
